The white silk blouse

So I feel like I’ve gotten a bit off schedule with the themes of my posts. Here it is, Friday (yesss), and I’m bringing you a full on business look. And then this weekend I’ll probably shoot a couple of casual outfits and voila, all next week while you need some work-week inspiration, I’ll be all about weekend-wear options. Hmm. Something to work on, I suppose.

In the mean time, I want to talk about white silk blouses. I love them. They are gorgeous, so versatile in a work wardrobe, and can be incorporated outside of the office to make jeans look super polished. Here’s the thing about white silk blouses though. They need to be worn with an undershirt. Approximately 97% of the time. Like if you wore a white silk blouse 100 times, during approximately three of them it would be ok to not wear an undershirt (none of which would happen at work). I’m not sure why it’s so easy to forget this step. But if you can see your polka-dotted bra when you look in the mirror, then the rest of your office can see it all day long. And get distracted by it. Which almost certainly has implications on your performance, how you’re viewed, and how seriously you are taken. Perhaps this is unfair, but it’s what is happening.

I have all sorts of thoughts opinions on dressing appropriately for work, and since my last work-wear post got a great response, I promise to do more posts of this nature. The moral of this one: invest $18 in four nude-colored undershirts, and don’t forget to wear them. You can thank me later.

  1. ha, very good advice! All too often white things are completely see-through, and silk by itself is very sheer. I definitely agree a cover up underneath is needed for the office! :)

that’s a lovely top too, I like the ruffle detail/

Hope you had a great weekend!
