Dance party

It’s amazing how much I let myself get away with while traveling. I’m usually pretty good at keeping to a productive schedule – working during the day and spending my nights cooking, exercising, and blogging. I eat well, sleep as much as possible, and make sure to sprinkle in some fun plans with friends. The past few weeks, however, I’ve been on the go, and between a quick stop in San Francisco and a week in Europe, I am completely off from my normal routine. To be clear, it’s been an incredibly fun few weeks and I wouldn’t change it for anything. I’m just using it as an excuse for being off my game with posting regularly.

I finished up my euro-trip with a weekend in Frankfurt. I was there for a special event, so I didn’t actually get to do a whole lot of sight-seeing. I did however get to do a whole lot of dancing! It was such a fun weekend with a bunch of great friends, and we took full advantage by going out both Friday and Saturday nights. These pictures were snapped before the party on Saturday, and I have to ask you to please excuse the red bracelet I’m wearing. It felt like a worthwhile tradeoff to make.

I also want to mention that I’ve had a few questions about the flats I’m wearing in these pictures. The soles are pretty thin and there’s not a whole lot of cushion, but all in all I think they’re pretty comfortable. I wore them out two nights in a row for hours on end, and I’m willing to attribute the small amount of pain my feet felt on Sunday to the dancing rather than the shoes. Especially at this price point, I would recommend them without hesitation.

From here I’m headed home to where I grew up in Maine. I am so excited for this weekend – my brother is getting married! He and his fiance are a perfect match, and I am so excited for our families and friends to come together and celebrate the two of them and the life they’re starting. Be sure to follow along on my Instagram for sneak peeks of the wedding preparations!

Earth tones & travel stories

DSC_0491DSC_0528DSC_0483DSC_0519DSC_0486

Hi friends! If you read my last post or follow my Instagram, you’ll already know that I’m writing this to you from my very exciting European vacation. We got off to a bit of a bumpy start – a missed flight, a left behind (but thankfully recovered) passport, and a lost camera between the 8 of us – but things have been smooth sailing since we all made it to our Lucerne, Switzerland destination.

Lucerne is a gorgeous town, centered on a beautiful lake with gorgeous nearby hikes, and has great access to Swiss skiing in winter (see a few pictures of the stunning lake here). We left after far too short a visit, and from Lucerne we travelled to Munich. I must say, if we had to leave Lucerne, Munich is a great next stop. Our visit to Munich has consisted primarily of scoping out the Biergarten scene, eating a lot of pork and pretzels, and making friends with locals as we go. The weather hasn’t been cooperating exactly, but today was gorgeous and sunny, and we made it out to Starberger See, a lake southwest of Munich, and spent the day soaking up the sun. We also paid a visit to the nearby Andechs monastery, and of course visited the biergarten there. We were shocked to stumble across a (surprisingly difficult) mini-golf course and immediately launched into a competitive battle.

Tomorrow we’re off to Frankfurt, and from there back to the US at the end of the weekend. I’ve been doing a good job of updating my Instagram regularly, but I’ll be sure to post the rest of our noteworthy stops in case its helpful for others planning their travels.

In the mean time, have a great weekend, and thanks for stopping by!

San Francisco: Silk bomber jacket & tulip maxi

DSC_0235DSC_0260DSC_0249DSC_0263DSC_0266

Last weekend I had a whirlwind trip from New York to San Francisco. I had a super fun reunion with a few dear friends of mine, and it made the quick jump across the country so worth it! I spent Friday in Palo Alto soaking up the sun, and on Saturday we ventured into San Francisco. I brought this lightweight silk bomber jacket and easy maxi dress since they travel so well (they pop out of the suitcase sans wrinkles), but as we toured the day got windier (ehem – my hair), and my ensemble wasn’t quite warm enough. As one friend said, I underestimated the San Fran weather.

This week it’s back to the grind and my repertoire of jeans and sweaters thanks to the chilly rain, but happily not for long! On Friday night I leave for a week and will split my time between Switzerland and Germany. I am so very excited for this trip and to explore these beautiful places. Pictures from the trip will definitely (eventually) make it up here, but be sure to follow along on my Instagram to see what I’m up to!

P.S. I absolutely love it when you leave me comments! I know I’m a bit behind on responding to them, but please know I read every one and so value your opinions. I will catch up soon, I promise! :)
