Bright pink pants

DSC_0393DSC_0397DSC_0450DSC_0435DSC_0396

A few weeks ago I set out on a quest to find some fun spring pants. Time to give the black and dark denim skinnies a little break, I thought. And then these bad boys caught my eye and I just couldn’t resist. The thing about pants this bright is that sometimes it’s hard to figure out what to wear them with. My take on it is to go easy with the rest of the outfit. Choose some neutral colors (yes, jean shirts count as neutral in my book) and layer if you need a bit of warmth. And then go about your day because bright pants are so fun and you look great. And be happy that it finally feels like spring.

Daytime sequins

DSC_0371DSC_0349DSC_0381DSC_0367DSC_0320_2

I bought this top last fall before a weekend reunion with some of my favorites from college, thinking it would serve me well during the holiday season. I wore it a few times, loved it, and then tucked it away in my closet for a later date. This weekend I was digging around looking for a top to wear during some NYC exploring, and these sequins caught my eye. Never did I expect to style this top as a daytime look in spring, but sometimes inspiration strikes, and, well, here we are.

I often categorize various pieces in my closet as “nighttime” or “work” or “insert specific season here,” but lately I’ve been trying to think outside the box a little bit and mix things up. A year ago not only did I own no sequins, but I also thought their only place in life was during special occasions and/or Halloween. What I’ve found though, is that it’s actually amazing how easy it is to dress down a statement piece and make it feel like it would actually go really well with some sunshine. Layering is the key. Pairing your statement items with heavier, everyday pieces, will create texture and dampen the attention-grabbing effect.

What types of pieces do you have in your closet that you would never think to wear during a spring weekend day? Any chance you can pair it with a military jacket or a pair of distressed boyfriend jeans and give it new life? I hope so. It’s a great way to expand the use of pieces you already own, and all I can think is cheers to that!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Happy Monday and have a wonderful week!
