White jeans & Pinterest love

Hi everybody! I finally pulled out my white jeans for summer (although it’s still not as warm here as I would like…). For a long time I struggled with white jeans. They weren’t as flattering or comfortable as my darker denim favorites, so stayed far away. But I recently discovered a new trick, and it has completely changed my thinking. White jeans are usually a bit thinner material than normal denim (not always, sure, but most “summer” styles are). When this is the case, I like to wear a full size up. Voila! No sausage-legs effect and man oh man are they comfy. Anyways, that tidbit aside, I don’t really want to talk about white jeans today. I want to talk about Pinterest.

I think you could consider me a “born again” Pinterest user. I used to love it in college as a wonderful source of inspiration, tips and tricks, and recipes. And it’s one of the most effective procrastination tools I’ve ever found. But after graduating, starting life in the working world, and then channeling most of my free time into starting this blog, I definitely fell off the bandwagon. Well over the past few weeks I’ve jumped right back on that train and I am seriously enjoying the ride. There are recipes, travel inspiration, beauty and hair tutorials, and of course a vast arena of fashion inspiration. I am loving it. Are you a Pinterest user? What’s your favorite thing to search for? And seriously, please stop on by! I am always looking for more active Pinners to follow and would love for us to connect! In the mean time, happy pinning!

Daytime sequins

I bought this top last fall before a weekend reunion with some of my favorites from college, thinking it would serve me well during the holiday season. I wore it a few times, loved it, and then tucked it away in my closet for a later date. This weekend I was digging around looking for a top to wear during some NYC exploring, and these sequins caught my eye. Never did I expect to style this top as a daytime look in spring, but sometimes inspiration strikes, and, well, here we are.

I often categorize various pieces in my closet as “nighttime” or “work” or “insert specific season here,” but lately I’ve been trying to think outside the box a little bit and mix things up. A year ago not only did I own no sequins, but I also thought their only place in life was during special occasions and/or Halloween. What I’ve found though, is that it’s actually amazing how easy it is to dress down a statement piece and make it feel like it would actually go really well with some sunshine. Layering is the key. Pairing your statement items with heavier, everyday pieces, will create texture and dampen the attention-grabbing effect.

What types of pieces do you have in your closet that you would never think to wear during a spring weekend day? Any chance you can pair it with a military jacket or a pair of distressed boyfriend jeans and give it new life? I hope so. It’s a great way to expand the use of pieces you already own, and all I can think is cheers to that!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Happy Monday and have a wonderful week!
