wear to work

The white silk blouse

So I feel like I’ve gotten a bit off schedule with the themes of my posts. Here it is, Friday (yesss), and I’m bringing you a full on business look. And then this weekend I’ll probably shoot a couple of casual outfits and voila, all next week while you need some work-week inspiration, I’ll be all about weekend-wear options. Hmm. Something to work on, I suppose.

In the mean time, I want to talk about white silk blouses. I love them. They are gorgeous, so versatile in a work wardrobe, and can be incorporated outside of the office to make jeans look super polished. Here’s the thing about white silk blouses though. They need to be worn with an undershirt. Approximately 97% of the time. Like if you wore a white silk blouse 100 times, during approximately three of them it would be ok to not wear an undershirt (none of which would happen at work). I’m not sure why it’s so easy to forget this step. But if you can see your polka-dotted bra when you look in the mirror, then the rest of your office can see it all day long. And get distracted by it. Which almost certainly has implications on your performance, how you’re viewed, and how seriously you are taken. Perhaps this is unfair, but it’s what is happening.

I have all sorts of thoughts opinions on dressing appropriately for work, and since my last work-wear post got a great response, I promise to do more posts of this nature. The moral of this one: invest $18 in four nude-colored undershirts, and don’t forget to wear them. You can thank me later.

Checkered midi

DSC_0792DSC_0833DSC_0794DSC_0810DSC_0927

Wednesday. Or as they say, hump day. I thought I’d do a work-wear look today to help get through the week. Since looking good at work makes it way more fun.

This outfit is a little too warm-weather for current New York temperatures (a girl can wish, right?), but since so many of you are in warmer climates I thought I’d pretend I was there too. If I wore this outside here, I would either wear it with tights or with tall boots (as seen here). And a jacket. Brr.

I’ll also just take this chance to quickly profess my love for midi skirts. I got on that train this spring and let me tell you, it’s a smooth ride. They work year round, and can be dressed up or down for work or play. This patterned one caught my eye during the ShopBop sale the other day and I couldn’t resist.

I hope you all have a lovely day, and thank you so much for stopping by!

Outfit:

Top: Tinley Road (old, similar here and here)
Skirt: J.O.A.
Shoes: Ivanka Trump
Accessories: Francesca’s necklace (old, similar), Bauble Bar earrings (similar here), Jules Smith bracelet

Giveaway with eShakti!

Scroll to bottom to enter giveaway!

DSC_0007DSC_0043DSC_0034DSC_0002DSC_0088

Today I’m so excited to announce a new giveaway in conjunction with eShakti, an online women’s apparel company offering sizes 0-36W & custom clothing. eShakti has some beautiful products to select from, that can be customized for a perfect fit. You can adjust straps, neckline, and hem/inseam length, as well as put in your actual measurements and have the garment made specifically to your liking. I found that the customization option with eShakti was perfect for avoiding any of the strange proportion issues I so often struggle with (think odd hem lengths, arm lengths, or issues with the waistline fit on pants).

The pros: eShakti has a ton of products to choose from, and ordering is easy since they have great explanations of how to properly take your measurements. Fair warning – it’s best if you have a flexible tape measure on hand. I didn’t and I had to get creative with my iPhone charger cord and regular tape measure… struggle.

I will say that I think the biggest issue with ordering from eShakti are the shipping costs. They aren’t cheap. There’s also a $7.50 customization fee. That being said, the clothes themselves are very reasonably priced, and my dress fit perfectly, so if you’re careful measuring you shouldn’t have to worry about returns.

If you’re interested in ordering straight away from eShakti (check out their new arrivals here), use the code “tailoredandtrue” at checkout for a 10% discount! If you want an even bigger discount, you should enter the giveaway! eShakti will be providing two Tailored and True followers with a $25 off coupon each! And this can be combined with the discount code! Double whammy.

The giveaway is open to readers in the US & Canada only (sorry international readers! There will be something for you soon – I promise!). To enter, follow the giveaway guidelines below. All entries will be vetted!

To enter:

  1. Follow Tailored and True on Instagram
  2. Like Tailored and True on Facebook
  3. Go to eShakti.com and select your favorite product. Comment below telling me you’ve completed the other steps and sharing your favorite item.

That’s it! The giveaway will close on Sunday, March 29th at 11:59pm EST, and the two winners will be notified via Facebook.

Dress: eShakti c/o
Jacket: Tinley Road Blazer (old, similar)
